A method for controlling record speed in an optical disk device is provided to check a focus error signal and a tracking error signal and to detect deviation areas of focus and tracking errors in order to calculate the slope with respect to the deviation areas and slow the recording speed down. A method for controlling record speed in an optical disk device comprises the steps of: carrying out high speed recording and detecting deviation areas of focus and tracking errors(S10,S11); when the set threshold is exceeded for more than predetermined hours, detecting the deviation areas from the time of excess(S12,S13); determining a down speed corresponding to the slope and changing the record speed(S14); and calculating slopes of the deviation areas and slowing the recording speed down according to the slopes(S16).
