An image forming apparatus and its control method are provided to perform automatic color alignment according to a mono mode of received print data and to save power consumption and a developing agent wasted by automatic color alignment. A printing unit(50) forms an image of each color based on print data and transfers the formed image to a print medium. A controller(10) controls the printing unit such that it does not perform an automatic color alignment on corresponding print data if the print data is mono. The printing unit is a single pass type printing unit. The automatic color alignment includes transferring an image of each color to a certain position by the printing unit and adjusting the position of the transferred image. If the print data is not mono and if certain automatic color alignment conditions are met, the controller controls the printing unit to perform the automatic color alignment. |
