An operating method of a digital broadcast receiver in changing a channel is provided to support fast change of channels and provide an accurate image and voice desired by a user from an early stage of a channel change when a program viewing preferred environment of the user changes. A digital broadcast receiver checks a program PID(Packet Identifier) of a changed channel previously stored in changing the channel(S300), and performs PID setting(S302). The digital broadcast receiver receives a PMT(Program Map Table) periodically transmitted in the changed channel(S304) to detect a program PID according to a program viewing preferred environment of a user(S306) and checks whether the detected PID is the same as a pre-set PID(S308). If the PIDs are not the same, the digital broadcast receiver updates the program PID with the detected PID(S310) and performs PID resetting with the updated PID(S312). The digital broadcast receiver extracts a program video packet and an audio packet received through the changed channel by using the re-set PID(S314).
