摘要 A data storage device, and a data rearranging method and a program recording medium thereof are provided to implement a tool for optimizing data rearrangement in garbage collection of storage media for storing data by sequential access and rearrange the data of magnetic tape optimally in a hierarchical storage system. A data transceiver(56) transceives data between a first storage(30) and second storages(40a~40c). A backup processor(51) processes backup for backing up the data stored in the first storage to magnetic tape of the second storages by sequential access, and reads and writes the data stored in the magnetic tape to the first storage. The backup processor stores backup history(53b) to a storage unit(53) when the data stored in the first storage is backed up. A setting manager(52) collects the information related to setting such as a backup or garbage collection schedules, and stores the collected information to the storage unit as setting data(53a). Each data management server(10a~10c) processes setting and the first storage transmits setting information received from the data management servers to the setting manager.
