APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CHANNEL SEARCHING IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL

A channel searching device of a mobile communication terminal and a method thereof are provided to prevent a channel having a confirmed limited service from being checked in case of channel searching time, thereby cutting down the channel searching time. When generation of idle handoff is sensed(300), a multi-band mobile communication terminal searches peripheral channels(302). The terminal confirms a channel having a stored limited service by checking a limited service channel list(304). The terminal selects a channel to be connected among peripheral channels which are not included in the limited service channel list(306). The terminal confirms whether the channel to be connected has a limited service(308). If so, the terminal includes the selected channel in the limited service channel list to store the channel(310). Otherwise, the terminal provides a normal service by being handed-off to the selected channel(312).
