摘要 The present invention relates to a recording medium drive and a head slider, for reliably preventing collisions between a head element and protrusions or contaminations on a recording medium. In a head slider (18) embodying the present invention, a protection film (25) is layered over the trailing or outflow end surface of the slider body (23). A head element (24) is embedded within the protection film (25). The head element (24) generates heat in response to the supply of an electric current, which heat causes thermal expansion of the protection film (25). Thus, the tip end of the head element (24) closely approaches the recording disk (13), beyond the medium-opposed surface (26) of the head slider (18). The flying height of a protection protuberance (49) is set smaller than a flying height of the head element (24) even when the protection film (25) suffers from thermal expansion. The protection protuberance (49) is allowed to trace an orbit closer to the recording medium (13) than the orbit of the head element (24). Thus, the protection protuberance (49), rather than the head element (24), collides against obstacles on the recording medium (13). <IMAGE>
