A photographing apparatus for auto-stabilization and a method thereof are provided to correct the distortion of an image due to camera shake, by using a motion vector and a current position value of a lens. A current position of a lens is sensed. Position data corresponding to the sensed position of the lens are outputted as a lens position value. If camera shake occurs(S210), a camera shake reduction value is calculated based on a motion vector sensed by using a brightness signal(S220). A lens position determination value is calculated, considering a previously stored camera shake reduction table(S240). The position of the lens is adjusted based on the lens position determination value and the lens position value(S250).
