METHOD FOR INPUTTING CHARACTERS AND MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL THEREFOR

A method for inputting characters and a mobile communication terminal therefor are provided to be applied at all the mobile phone sets or handheld computers which use small sized touch screens for making a user interface easy. A mobile communication terminal for inputting characters comprises a touch screen unit(10) and a controller(20). The touch screen unit(10) displays a soft keypad in a character inputting mode, senses a touch down to the keypad and generates a touch signal. The controller(20) magnifies a character matched with the touch down position and surrounding characters, and designates the character matched with the touch down position on the magnified screen if receiving a touch signal. The controller designates other characters on the basis of a movement distance and direction in accordance with a drag operation if there occurs a drag event in accordance with a drag operation of a user before there occurs a touch up event.
