A ISOLATION PROCESS FOR BETULIN FROM BIRCH BARK

A method for extracting betulin from birch bark is provided to obtain the betulin with high yield and high purity by effectively controlling the solubility and polar change between trace ingredients of the birch bark and solvent to remove the trace ingredients therefrom. A method for extracting betulin from birch bark comprises the steps of: (a) extracting a crushed birch bark with a solvent such as chloroform, dichloromethane(DCM), ethylacetate, methanol, ethanol and ether to prepare a crude extract; (b) purifying the crude extract with n-hexane to remove a non-polar material therefrom; and (c) subjecting the purified crude extract to a column chromatography using n-hexane:ethylacetate as an elution solvent.
