The device (10) has a cutting strip e.g. cutting band (20), rotating driving and tensioning fly-wheels (12, 18) and extending in a cutting zone situated between the fly-wheels. An electric motor (15) drives one of the fly-wheels in rotation, and another electric motor (34) relative displaces between a cut part (32) and the zone along a feed rate. A variator (26) provides a signal representing a driving torque provided by the motor (15), to another variator (36). The variator (36) controls the motor (34) for varying the rate such that the torque remains constant. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling a sawing device.
