PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detector capable of improving the focus detecting accuracy of an image-formation optical system, and to provide an optical system. SOLUTION: The focus detector detects a focusing state on the scheduled image-formation surface of the image-formation optical system based on the deviation of a pair of images by a pair of luminous fluxes passing through different positions of the pupil of the image-formation optical system. It calculates a conversion coefficient for converting the deviation of a pair of images into the defocus amount of the image-formation optical system based on information showing the distribution of the luminous flux and the aperture information of the image-formation optical system.
