PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polyester for toner which emits no foul odor during fixing and excels in transparency, and to provide an electrophotographic toner containing a polyester obtained by the manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The method includes: (A) a step of condensation-polymerizing a dihydric alcohol component containing≥80 mol% of a specific alkylene oxide adduct of bisphenol A and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid compound in the presence of an organotin-based esterification catalyst; (B) a step of carrying out condensation polymerization by adding an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid compound to the reaction system at the time when the reaction rate of the polymerization reaction in the step (A) attains to≥90%; and (C) a step of carrying out condensation polymerization by adding a tri- or higher polyvalent carboxylic acid compound and/or a tri- or higher polyhydric alcohol to the reaction system at the time when the reaction rate of all the polymerization reactions in the steps (A) and (B) attains to≥90%, wherein the method is characterized by the amount of the aromatic dicarboxylic acid compound used in the step (A).
