PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter capable of appropriately establishing pressing load of a pinion to a ring gear side, improving meshing performance of a pinion with a ring gear, and reducing cost. SOLUTION: The starter 1 is provided with belleville springs 142-145 combined in parallel between a step part 133 of a clutch inner 132 and a rear end surface of the pinion 14. The belleville springs 142-145 are established to include negative characteristic area in a part of load characteristics. Consequently, pressing load can be appropriately established as compared to a conventional coil spring. Also, meshing performance can be improved since pressing load can be changed according to a meshing condition. Moreover, working cost for a storage space can be reduced since storage like a coil spring is not necessary. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
