PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera which can detect an attitude (detection of a gravity direction) without using a dedicated attitude sensor, and therefore can be made low cost and compact. SOLUTION: The camera is equipped with: a photographic optical system (11) to form a subject image; deflection correction means (15 to 16) to detect the deflection of a subject image with respect to the optical axis (1A) of the photographic optical system and to correct the deflection by driving a lens (12) being a part of the photographic optical system based on the detected deflection; and a detection means (16) to detect the gravity direction on the subject image based on load applied when the deflection correction means drives the lens.
