PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a car navigation system wherein detailed map information around the own vehicle present position and information of approximate road shapes, facilities and the like in a relatively remote location can be displayed on one screen, visibility of the displayed map is excellent and such operations can be processed relatively easily. SOLUTION: The car navigation system 1 comprises: own vehicle position detectors 8-10; a map data input device 6; a display device 15 positioned in a combination meter 3; a navigation control circuit 2 for controlling the display of the display device 15; and so on. The navigation control circuit 2, by combining a plurality of road map data of different reduction scales on one screen, makes the display device display a detailed (of a relatively smaller reduction scale) road map for the part near the own vehicle present position on the screen, and a wide area (of a larger reduction scale) road map for the part far from the own vehicle present position on the screen.
