PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device and a method for a vehicle capable of detecting present position more precisely by eliminating the affection of multi-path. SOLUTION: The present position calculating method of a vehicle provided with the navigation device 10 is composed of following steps: a step for calculating the error range of autonomous positioning means composed of the autonomous navigation sensor 5 and the controller 17 is calculated as an estimated area data as a new estimated area data of the new present position; a step for determining whether the calculated GPS positioning data newly calculated by the GPS receiver 4 is contained in the estimated area data or not; and a step for newly calculating the present position data showing the present position by utilizing the autonomous positioning data, when determined that the GPS positioning data is not contained in the estimated area data.
