PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid a publicly known defect by improving a device for fixing two mutually relatively movable members by at least one retaining element and a device for fixing an adjustable steering column for an automobile. SOLUTION: A second member (2) has at least one vessel (7) filled with a granular, advantageously spherical material (8) and the retaining element (3) is buried in the material (8). Further, the vessel (7) filled with balls or the like is supported on the adjustable steering column and the pin-like retaining element (3) is adjustably supported on a vehicle body in a longitudinal direction.
