PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polybutylene terephthalate excellent in color tone, hydrolysis resistance, heat stability, transparency and molding property, also reduced in foreign materials and capable of suitably being used as a film, a monofilament, a fiber, an electric or electronic part, an automobile part, etc., while suppressing the production of tetrahydrofuran as a byproduct and without sacrificing productivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polybutylene terephthalate by using a titanium compound and at least 1 kind of a metal compound selected from the group 1 and 2 of the periodic table as catalysts and continuously producing the polybutylene terephthalate from terephthalic acid and 1,4-butane diol is provided by satisfying a specific operating condition.
