<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional optical module that is less affected by forward radiant noise, LD/PD crosstalk, and external noise. <P>SOLUTION: A metal housing having an LD and a PD is made a receiver ground RG which is the anode or cathode potential of the PD. A receptacle 4 for attaching/detaching an optical fiber 40 is made a different frame 9 ground FG, with the lead pin of the LD insulated from the metal housing. The receiver ground RG and the frame ground FG are insulated by an insulating material.
