PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for driving an electrolytic capacitor which can prevent decrease in withstand voltage, even when specific resistance is decreased and can suppress an increase in leakage current at the time of high-temperature non-loading. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for driving an electrolytic capacitor contains a solvent in which ethylene glycol is mixed with 2.0-10.0 wt.% water, and blended with an organic carboxylic acid such as azelaic acid, sebacic acid, benzoic acid, 1,6-decane dicarboxylic acid, 5,6-decane dicarboxylic acid, 7-vinyl hexadecene-1,16-dicarboxylc acid or its salt, and blended with 0.1-1.0 wt.% of geranyl formate shown by a chemical formula in a figure.
