PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-absorbing resin which shows a high water-retention capacity and a high water-absorption power under load and can be suitably used for a hygienic material, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The water-absorbing resin contains a monomer having a ketone group and/or a monomer having an aldehyde group as a monomer component composing the water-absorbing resin, wherein the monomer is crosslinked by a compound having a plurality of hydrazide groups. In the method for producing the water-absorbing resin, a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing the monomer having a ketone group and/or the monomer having an aldehyde group is polymerized to obtain a water-absorbing resin precursor, and the compound having a plurality of hydrazide groups is added to the water-absorbing resin precursor and subsequently subjected to a crosslinking reaction.
