<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing dust and so on from sticking to a laser scanner unit. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a drum shutter 25, which when a developing unit 7 is unloaded from a device body 2, moves to the protecting position where it covers the photoreceptor drum 41, and when the developing unit 7 is loaded into the device body 2, moves to the retracting position, where it retracts from the protecting position.
