PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an automobile continuously variable transmission, capable of reducing overshooting of a gear ratio, even when increasing the shifting speed during gear-ratio shifting. SOLUTION: The control device comprises an actual pulley ratio detecting means 102, an arrival target pulley ratio setting means 100, and a control means 103 for controlling the position of a step motor 27. The control means 103 consists of a normal control part 103b for feedback-controlling the step motor 27 to be operated at a first speed; a high-speed control part 103a for open-loop controlling it to be operated, at a second speed higher than the first speed, based on the arrival target pulley ratio; a determining part 101 for determining whether high speed operation is required; and a change-over part P1 for selecting control by the normal control part 103b in a normal condition and changing over it into control by the high speed control part 103a, when change-over starting conditions, including the determination that the high speed operation is required, are established.
