PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure a recovery of nozzle by certainly eliminating bubbles which are mixed into an ink passage accompanying with the operations such as an ink cartridge replacing, etc. SOLUTION: While the nozzle is recovered by sucking the ink from the nozzle, the nozzle recovery is judged during sucking the ink. In controlling the ink suction based on the judgement result, if there is a possibility of the presence of the bubbles in the ink passage from an ink storage section to a pressure chamber, the recovery judgement of the nozzle is prohibited while sucking the ink during the time of the whole ink in the ink passage passing through the pressure chamber, and then the bubbles mixed into the ink passage accompanying replacement of the ink cartridges can be sucked. Thereby, the misjudgment that the nozzle is recovered although the bubbles exist in the ink passage can be inhibited and prevented, and then the nozzle recovery can be ensured.
