PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for expressing an aldehyde reductase gene.

SOLUTION: This method for expressing the aldehyde reductase gene inhibites the activity of an aldose reductase in cells. In a method for screening an antidiabetic medicine a tested substance is added to a mouse-derived immortalized mature Schwann cell culture product under a high glucose concentration condition and/or a high osmotic pressure condition, and the expression of the aldehyde reductase gene is used as an index.
