PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar image display device formed by airtightly sealing a back side base plate on which image signal wiring and scanning signal wiring are arranged in a matrix shape through an insulation film, having an electron source arranged in the neighborhood of a crossing part of both the wirings, and a front side base plate having a phosphor layer and an anode with a sealing member through a frame body serving as a sealing frame, and evacuating the display area surrounded by the frame body with the deterioration of a degree of a vacuum caused by the signal wiring penetrating through the airtight sealing part restrained. SOLUTION: The length LSK of a second sealing area 52 interposed between a frame body 3 and the backside base plate 1 through which the scanning signal wiring 9 of a thick film penetrates airtightly is made longer than the length LDK of a first sealing area 51 through which the image signal wiring 8 of a thin film penetrates airtightly.
