PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for monitoring entrance/exit to/from a room for detecting and warning illegal entrance into a controlled area by a person accompanying an authenticated person. SOLUTION: In this method for monitoring entrance/exit to/from the controlled area, opening/closing door is controlled based on a collation result by a person authentication device installed in the vicinity of a single door separating the controlled area from a general area, while the person accompanying the authenticated person is detected through image processing of a camera image of the periphery of the door taken from the upper side. In a period just before the door is unlocked, a person in the vicinity of the door is detected based on the camera image (door unlocking determination processing). After the door is unlocked, the number of persons passing through an entrance is counted based on the camera image (passing person number measurement processing). According to the determination result based on the image processing of the camera image, door opening/closing is controlled, and notification of an alarm warning is controlled for monitoring entrance/exit to/from the controlled area. Illegal entrance by the person accompanying the authenticated entering person or by a person entering simultaneously with exit of the authenticated person is detected and warned.
