PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent contamination caused by charging of a recording paper 170. SOLUTION: The liquid jetting apparatus is equipped with: a recording head 164 which has a conductive nozzle plate 166 and jets a liquid towards the recording paper 170 while reciprocating on the recording paper 170; a platen 150 which positions the recording paper 170 at a position opposed to the nozzle plate 166; a counter electrode 310 arranged opposite to the nozzle plate 166 for a direction in which the liquid is jetted; a rib electrode 156 electrically coupled to the recording paper 170; a potential difference generating means 330 with one end connected to the counter electrode 310 and with the other end connected to the nozzle plate 166; and a connection switching means 400 which connects the rib electrode 156 to one end of the potential difference generating means 330 when the recording paper 170 is present immediately below the nozzle plate 166, and which connects the rib electrode 156 to the other end of the potential difference generating means 330 when there is a region where the recording paper 170 is not present immediately below the nozzle plate 166.
