PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital gamma correcting circuit which has a small number of data to be set in advance and can obtain smooth correction characteristics. SOLUTION: The digital gamma correcting circuit 100 comprises a data setting section 101 which sets setting data including an area width W1 from the outside and coordinates (Xp, Yp) of a break point, a coefficient calculation section 102 which calculates a coefficient of a linear equation representing a basic polygonal line and three specified approximate segments gradually changing in gradient nearby the break point including the break point for defining a gamma correction polygonal line approximating an ideal gamma correction curve on the basis of set data, arithmetic sections 103a to 103c which perform operations for gamma correcting input data based upon the coefficient, and a result selection section 104 which properly selects one of their arithmetic results. Consequently, the gamma correction polygonal line close to the ideal gamma correction curve, and smooth correction characteristics can be obtained with a small number of data.
