PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform optimum setting of inspection data by separating the surface color of an inspection target point to some component colors and calculating static quantities of the respective component colors and the similarity of color between component colors. SOLUTION: This method comprises steps of imaging a recognition target; extracting component colors of each area of the resulting recognition target image; extracting, based on the extracted colors, a color with high appearance frequency; extracting a similar color contained in a predetermined range from the extracted color with high appearance frequency; calculating the degree of dispersion between the color with high appearance frequency and the similar color; extracting, based on the calculated degree of dispersion, an area having component colors contained in a predetermined color range; removing noise components from the extracted area; calculating, based on the removal result of noise components, static quantities of component colors; and setting an extracting color range based on the statistic quantities.
