PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses formation of an abnormal image by setting the coefficient of surface friction of a photoreceptor and the coefficient of surface friction of an intermediate transfer belt to proper values so that the coefficient of surface friction of the photoreceptor may be smaller, and then can maintain excellent image quality. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, the photoreceptor 21 and intermediate transfer belt 13 are provided with lubricant coating devices 1 which have coating rollers 4 abutting against solid lubricants 2 and capable of rotating clockwise and counterclockwise, and differ in torque of rotation with the rotating directions of the coating rollers 4; and the torque of rotation in the rotating direction of the coating roller 4 of the lubricant coating device 1 provided to the photoreceptor 21 is large and the torque of rotation in the rotating direction of the coating roller 4 of the lubricant coating device 1 provided to the intermediate transfer belt 13 is small.
