PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device capable of recording an image with high quality by simple control. SOLUTION: A conveying means of the recording medium is constituted by an upstream side conveying means arranged on an upstream side of the recording means; and downstream side conveying means 40, 41, 42, 43 arranged on a downstream side of the recording means. The upstream side conveying means has a pair of rollers 36, 37 capable of clamping and releasing the recording medium and arranged opposed to each other; and a roller movement means for moving at least one of the pair of rollers 36, 37 from a clamping position for clamping the recording medium to a release position for releasing the recording medium. The roller movement means is controlled so as to release the clamping state by the pair of rollers before a rear end of the recording medium reaches a gap between the pair of rollers of the upstream side conveying means.
