<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image converting apparatus which can perform optimal image conversions according to an image processing mode. <P>SOLUTION: The image converting apparatus 56 converts five color image data of an image forming apparatus 53 which forms an image by using a plurality of shade black color materials of distinct richness to four color image data corresponding to an image forming apparatus 52 which forms an image by using one black color material.
