PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control relaxation of off-track detection conditions by an occurrence point of off-track by detecting off-track, in an optical disk apparatus in which information of the track of the optical disk is read by irradiating the optical disk with light. SOLUTION: A controller (20) performs processing (20-2) in which an off-track occurrence point is detected when off-track is caused and defect determination processing (20-1) in which continuous off-track in the same point is detected and it is determined as defect (dust, scratch), in read operation, detection conditions of off-track detection processing (22-1) are relaxed. On the contrary, when off-track is not continued in the same point, it is determined as non-defect, off-track conditions are not relaxed. Sudden off-track directly after seek can be discriminated from off-track by defect, even if sudden off-track is continued, movement to an adjacent track is prohibited, also off-track relief processing being appropriate for defect can be performed.
