PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which performs color matching correction in the writing of an image, and an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: When a counter is cleared by a detection signal DETP_N of a synchronization detecting plate 31b, a measurement clock ICLK is counted by the counter 71. The count number N of the counter 71 is output to a control part 72 according to a detection signal EDETP_N of a back-end synchronization detecting plate 61 (step S1301). Next, the control part 72 compares the measured count number N with a preset reference count number N0 (step S1302). Subsequently, a count number N' for use in the correction of a main scanning magnification is computed by the expression: N'=N-3/4 (step S1303). A writing clock frequency f' after the correction is computed by the expression: f'=f×N0/N' (step S1304).
