PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a developing device where the layer thickness of developer carried on a developer carrying roller is appropriately regulated. SOLUTION: (a) The developer carrying roller for carrying the developer, the developer carrying roller having (a1) a rugged part that is positioned at a center part in the axial direction of the developer carrying roller and the surface of which is worked to be rugged in order to carry the developer, (a2) non-rugged parts that are positioned at both ends in the axial direction of the developer carrying roller and the surfaces of which are not worked to be rugged, and (a3) a middle part that is positioned between the rugged part and the non-rugged part in the axial direction of the developer carrying roller and equipped with a radius smaller than the maximum radius of the rugged part and larger than the radius of the non-rugged part, and (b) a layer thickness regulating member for regulating the layer thickness of the developer carried on the developer carrying roller while abutting on the developer carrying roller from one end to the other end in the axial direction of the developer carrying roller are provided.
