HEAT-ASSISTED MAGNETIC RECORDING HEAD AND MAGNETIC RECORDING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-assisted magnetic recording head which requires no redundant optical elements and is simple in composition and thin. SOLUTION: The heat-assisted magnetic recording head heats magnetic bits by the radiation of light when the magnetic bits are recorded on a magnetic disk 1 by means of a magnetic writing element 30. The heat-assisted magnetic recording head is provided with; a reflection-convergence element 20 in which a surface emission laser 23 is embedded; and a translucent flat plate 25 which functions as a slider. Laser light emitted from the surface emission laser 23 is reflected and converged on the mirror surface 20a of the element 20 and irradiates a plasmon probe 26 formed on the bottom surface of the flat plate 25. Near-field light effuses from the plasmon probe 26 into a very small area to heat the recording bits of the magnetic disk 1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
