PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover deteriorated magnetic particles, without leaking magnetic particles, in a magnetic brush type charging device provided with two charging sleeves. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus provided with the magnetic brush type charging device having two magnetic particle carrying members has a means and an operation mode for rotating only one of the magnetic particle carriers in a direction (second direction) opposite to that in charging. The magnetic particles carried on the reversely rotating magnetic particle carrier are scraped so as to be disposed of by a stripping means for magnetic particles provided in the charging device.
