<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser welding apparatus, wherein stable laser welding is possible by superposing, on a long and wide workpiece, another long workpiece with a mounting flange on both sides of a projected ridge and by surely pressurizing the mounting flange on both sides, and continuous welding is possible on the superposed workpieces in a surely and closely adhered state, free of deviation or the like in the upper workpiece. <P>SOLUTION: A bed 9 on which the lower workpiece W can be placed is installed on a base 2 and then, a portal frame 5 straddling over this bed 9 is arranged so that it can run along the longitudinal direction of the bed 9. A machining head 7 equipped with a laser head 71 and a holding roller 73 is installed so as to be movable laterally in the horizontal direction along the horizontal frame 51 of the portal frame 5 and also upward and downward in the vertical direction. A supporting frame 11 extended in the direction orthogonal to the horizontal frame 51 is arranged laterally movably in the horizontal direction along the horizontal frame 51.
