<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenation/demetallation catalyst exhibiting high demetallation activity even when the amount of a hydrogenation-active metal component is small and to provide an alumina carrier having a specific pore structure suitable for the hydrogenation/demetallation catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The alumina carrier is such an alumina molding that the specific surface area (SA) measured by a BET method based on nitrogen adsorption is within 100-250 m<SP>2</SP>/g, the total pore volume (PV<SB>T</SB>) of pores having≥4 nm pore diameter which is measured by a mercury porosimetry is within 0.50-1.50 ml/g and the average pore diameter (PD<SB>A</SB>) corresponding to 1/2 of the total pore volume (PV<SB>T</SB>) is within 15-30 nm. The alumina molding has a first peak of a pore volume distribution within 8-20 nm pore diameter and a second peak of the pore volume distribution within 18-30 nm pore diameter. The value of the second peak is larger than that of the first peak. The pore volume (PV<SB>M</SB>) of pores having≥100 nm pore diameter is≤0.05 ml/g. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
