PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed rectangular battery excelling in reliability and having an explosion-proof valve by focusing attention on a deformation state of a battery case when the internal pressure of the battery abnormally rises. SOLUTION: The battery case 1 is formed into a flat rectangular shape having a longitudinal width smaller than its vertical height and lateral length, wherein the left and right side walls 3 and 5 are circularly swollen outward in the left and right directions, respectively. The explosion-proof valve 2 comprises a depression 20 formed by recessing it with respect to the right side wall 5 of the battery case 1.
