PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical display device which is capable of obtaining a display result of desired image quality by obtaining a control value of a liquid crystal light valve for use in consideration of characteristics per color and gradation of the liquid crystal light valve with respect to liquid crystal light valves for modulating luminance of signal light resulting from synthesizing individual modulated primary color light beams. SOLUTION: The optical display device is a controller of a display device wherein a luminance modulation element and a color modulation element are constituted of different modulation elements, includes; a conversion table which is generated for luminance control values on the basis of control value-luminance value characteristics of a luminance value of light emitted from the luminance modulation element and indicates a correspondence relation between color values and luminance control values; a luminance control value determination means which refers to the conversion table to obtain a luminance control value corresponding to a desired luminance value; and a color control value determination means for obtaining color control values of the color modulation element on the basis of color values per luminance control value.
