PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support structure for a valve characteristics changing mechanism capable of inhibiting change of valve characteristics due to thermal expansion. SOLUTION: The valve characteristic changing mechanism 20 is provided with a control shaft 22, an operation mechanism 23 adjusting axial direction of the same, and a changing mechanism body 30 changing valve characteristics of an engine valve according to phase position to the control shaft 22. The operation mechanism 23 is fixed on a cylinder head 12, and the changing mechanism body 30 is supported by the cylinder head 12. The control shaft 22 is formed out of material having thermal expansion coefficient smaller than that of the cylinder head 12. Restricting members 40a-40d are fixed on reference positions of the cylinder head 12. The restricting members 40a-40d are formed out of material having thermal expansion coefficient smaller than that of the cylinder head 12. The Restriction members 40a-40d are extended in a shape abutting on a side part of the changing mechanism body 30 in a far side of the reference positions in one end thereof.
