PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a wear resistant steel plate by which a wear resistant steel plate having excellent low-temperature toughness can be manufactured while minimizing variations in the quality of material in a longitudinal direction. SOLUTION: A steel stock, which has a composition consisting of, by mass, 0.10 to 0.20% C, 0.05 to 1.0% Si, 0.1 to 2.0% Mn,≤0.020% P,≤0.005% S, 0.10 to 0.70% Mo, 0.0003 to 0.0020% B, further 0.005 to 0.1% Ti and/or 0.035 to 0.1% Al and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, is hot rolled, and the resultant steel plate is subjected, immediately after the completion of the hot rolling, to direct quenching treatment where quenching is done from a initial cooling temperature not lower than the Ar<SB>3</SB>transformation point (surface temperature). By this method, the steel plate can be provided with high surface hardness, superior wear resistance, excellent low-temperature toughness and reduced variations in properties such as toughness in the longitudinal direction of the steel plate. This steel plate can further contain Nb and/or either or both of the following groups (a) and (b): (a) one or more elements among Cu, Ni, Cr and V; (b) one or two elements among Ca and REM.
