PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a silica particle-containing methacrylic resin that exhibits high transparency and high flame retardancy. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method comprises emulsion-polymerizing in water a monomer (A) mainly composed of methyl methacrylate in the presence of a surfactant (B), a radical polymerization initiator (C) and a silica particle (D) having a particle size (d<SB>1</SB>) of 1-100 nm as measured by the BET method. Preferably, the particle size (d<SB>2</SB>) of the silica particle (D) measured by the dynamic light scattering method is at least two times the particle size (d<SB>1</SB>) measured by the BET method. Usually, the used amount of the surfactant (B), the radical polymerization initiator (C) and the inorganic substance particle (D) are 0.05-2 pts.mass, 0.1-5 pts.mass and 5-50 pts.mass, respectively, based on 100 pts.mass of the monomer (A).
