PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the assembly of an edge device of a sewing machine for trimming a fabric. SOLUTION: An opening 41a having a diameter equal to that of a thrust block 39a is provided on a housing 40 retaining the thrust blocks 39a and 39b. The thrust block 39a is attachable/detachable from outside of the housing 40 through the opening 41a. Thereby an inner space large enough to assemble an edge-actuating drive mechanism 30 inside the housing 40 can be securely obtained. Visualization of the space from outside of the opening 41a at the assembly by a worker is enables to improve working efficiency.
