PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive unit which can immediately interrupt abnormal current, when the abnormal current is generated and can grasp the details of errors, when various errors are detected and motor drive is stopped. SOLUTION: The motor drive unit has a first comparator 11 which detects overcurrent errors and outputs an overcurrent error signal, when the current value flowing in a DC motor exceeds a first level, a second comparator 12 which outputs overcurrent signal, when the current value flowing in the DC motor 1 exceeds the second level smaller than the first level in the current value, and a timer 13 which outputs a motor-lock error signal, when the overcurrent signal is output from the second comparator 12 over a preset specified time T<SB>2</SB>. When the overcurrent error signal or motor-lock error signal is output from the first comparator 11 or the timer 13, a drive transistor 10 for forcible stop makes the supply of power to the DC motor 1 interrupted.
