PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for assisting parking that can immediately display a parking assisting image, even when parking operation is redone. SOLUTION: The parking assisting apparatus 1 includes a CPU 2, which relates image data acquired from a camera 20 provided to a vehicle to at least its imaging position to obtain recorded image data 15 and an image memory 7, which stores the image data, even after the parking operation has ended. Furthermore, the parking assisting apparatus 1 is equipped with an image processor 8, which outputs the parking assisting image using the recorded image data and the latest image data on a display 9 and a RAM 3 which stores end history data 29 acquired at the end of the parking operation of the vehicle. Furthermore, the CPU 2 cooperates with the image processor 8 to decide whether the recorded image data stored before the parking operation is ended are effective based on the end history data 29, when the parking operation is restarted after being ended.
