PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressure cylinder capable of maintaining pressure in a cylinder chamber without contact of a piston body and a cylinder body with each other. SOLUTION: The pressure cylinder comprises the cylinder body 2, which is formed with an annular peripheral wall along an axis line I and has an opening only on one end side, and a piston means 3, that is disposed on an opening side of the cylinder body 2 to be reciprocated by a piston rod 34 relatively to the cylinder body 2 along the axis line I, extends into the cylinder body 2 through the opening and forms the cylinder chamber in the back in the cylinder body 2, which varies in volume according to the relative reciprocation. An annular groove 42 for insertion of the annular peripheral wall of the cylinder body 2 is formed in a surface of the piston means 3 facing the cylinder body 2 and the back of the annular groove serves as a counter-pressure chamber varying in volume according the relative reciprocation.
