<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently suppress output from an internal combustion engine when the internal combustion engine is demanded of high output and predetermined condition are satisfied and quickly output high output when satisfaction of the predetermined conditions are removed from that state. <P>SOLUTION: In this control method, conditions corresponding to demand torque Tr* are kept for control items of slow response to torque output from an engine 22 such as throttle opening TH and valve timing, ignition timing is delayed and fuel injection quantity is reduced for control items of quick response to torque output from the engine 22 such as ignition timing and fuel injection quantity, and cylinder deactivation as a control item having big effect on torque output from the engine 22 is performed (S160, S180) when stall start time is determined.
